A Minnesota man has been trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the tallest ice sculpture at Barker’s Island in Superior. Self-taught electronics engineer Roger Hanson has been living in a trailer on the island where he designed a spray tower that shoots 10 gallons of water a minute from Lake Superior onto a system of cables. His goal was to build a 70 foot high ice sculpture but mother nature had other plans. The sculpture collapsed before reaching Hanson’s goal. Reporter Danielle Kaeding caught up with Hanson before its spectacular crash.
